For a number of years now we have had books about separation/divorce for adults and children available for purchase in our office, and these have proved popular with adults attending appointments as they are able to look at them away from the public gaze of a library or bookshop.

So what has the impact of the Pre-Action Protocol been?

From 6th April 2011 anyone wishing to make an application to family court needs to consider using mediation first by attending a Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting (MIAM).

To the end of July 11, we have seen a 41% increase in referrals/enquiries compared to the same period last year and a 57% increase in MIAMs (similar to the assessment meetings which took place before mediation prior to 6th April). It is early days, but there also seems to be an increase in the number of mediation starts.

Community Information Fair 17/6/11

CWFM had a stall at the Community Information Fair in Coventry City Centre today (17/6). Quite a bit of interest in the work that we do - particularly from older people who needed to sort out property & finance but did not want to meet together in mediation, and people who wanted to sort out wills & probate disputes with mediation.

The Family Justice Review launched its interim report on 31st March and is inviting responses to its proposals for reform.

The report sets out proposals to tackle problems faced by the family justice system.
